WHO AM I ?

Hi, I’am Kabul Budiono. Just call me Kabul. I have been almost 30 years working as broadcaster in radio Republik Indonesia ( RRI ). Starting may career in 1977 as an announcer at RRI local station in pontisnsk, West Kalimantan, soon I learnt to be a drama radio writer and youth program producer. Luckily, soon after finished my study at Tanjung Pura University of Pontianak, I have been assigend to attend a seminar on radio programme for minority held in Chiangmai, Northern Province of Thailand hosted by Asia Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development. I also have a very fruitfull experience, as for 2 years from 1982 – 1984 assigned to represent RRI to work with Deutsche Welle ( The Voice of Germany ) based in Cologne as an announcer and editor. My first kid – a son – luckily was born there in Cologne and named Rheino as he was born just near Rhein river. Life goes on for me – the youngest boy in my familly who was born 1957 in a small village about 600 kilometres in Middle Java – when in 1986 I and my dear wife ( Nuryani ) and Rheino moved to Jakarta as I worked as an announcer and reporter of News Department of RRI. I got a vast experience during my career as a reporter to cover a lot events not only in country but also abroad. One of my experience was to cover Balkan war and visiting Croatia and Bosnia. The time has changed. In line with the reform movement to gain democratic state, I and other RRI Broadcasters hand in hand with the friends of civil society, supported the parliament to initiate new Broadcasting Law and changed RRI to be a public service broadcasting. Then in 2002 The New Broadcasting Act was installed and RRI was no longer Government Radio but Public Service Broadcasting. So after being a head of News Department i Jakarta and Head of RRI Local Station in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara I then asigned as a member of RRI Supervisory Board for 5 years term 2005 – 2010. Maybe the question is why I am so interested in Teaching English. Well, I finished my bachelor degree in English Major of Teachers Training Faculty of Tanjungpura University of Pontianak in 1979. After a long time not to deal with the field of teaching English as a second Language as I was busy with my daily activities at RRI, I decided to continue my study and joined Indraprasta University in Jakarta to graduate my S 1 in 2008 than enrolled post graduate at Universitas Prof HAMKA in Jakarta.
